Recreation Lake Erie is a great place for fishing which is done both commercially and recreationally. The lake was heavily polluted in the 1960s and 1970s, causing concerns that wildlife would be killed off, but fishing is still a popular recreation and the lake has been cleaned. The lake also provides opportunities for swimming, hiking, camping, boating and sightseeing. There is a diverse range of wildlife, including migratory birds, in the area. There are several National and State Parks of both Canada and the United States near Lake Erie. Niagara Falls is next to the lake, as well as Point Pelee National Park, which borders the lake from Canada's southernmost point. Another beautiful area bordering the lake is Lake Erie State Park in New York. There are more parks in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan as well. |
